Diocese of Duluth Launches Diocesan-wide Stewardship Initiative
The Diocese of Duluth has begun preparations to implement a diocesan-wide Stewardship Initiative, an effort designed to strengthen parish life and deepen the faith of all who call our parishes home. At its heart, stewardship is simply a response to God’s gifts — offering back our time, talent, prayer and treasure in gratitude and love.
This initiative will begin with a thoughtful review of each parish’s current opportunities for involvement. This includes ministries, prayer opportunities and the ways parishioners support their parish financially. The purpose of this process is not merely administrative but pastoral: to better understand how each parish can invite its members into a fuller participation in the life of the Church. The diocese has retained Guidance in Giving, a Catholic development firm, to help coordinate this effort. Based on its initial conversations and work with each parish and mission, the firm will assist in developing a customized plan of action for each community. It will then work closely with pastors and parish leadership to implement these plans effectively.
Through this effort, the diocese seeks first to enhance parish engagement. A thriving parish is one where individuals are not only present but actively involved — serving in ministries, participating in communal prayer and building relationships rooted in Christ. By identifying both strengths and gaps, each parish will be better equipped to invite parishioners into meaningful roles that correspond to their unique gifts.
More deeply, the Stewardship Initiative seeks to nurture spiritual growth and foster a culture of generosity. As parishioners become more engaged, relationships are strengthened and a sense of shared mission grows. This aligns closely with the Church’s call to evangelization, as vibrant and united communities naturally become witnesses to the Gospel.
Each parish will host events tailored to its unique needs, culture and opportunities. These gatherings will help parishioners discover where they are most needed and how they can become more involved. Central to this effort is a simple but powerful invitation: every parishioner is asked to consider “Just One Thing” they can do to serve their parish and grow in their faith.
Taking place during the summer and fall of 2026, this initiative offers a timely opportunity for renewal. By responding generously to this call, the faithful of the Diocese of Duluth can help build parishes that are not only sustainable but truly alive in Christ — places where faith is deepened, community is strengthened and the mission of the Church is carried forward with joy.
